I Will Survive: Dancing Auschwitz

· tweet 7 comments Posted on July 10, 2010 by Shahar Golan

On a recent trip to Europe, a family of three generations (a Holocaust survivor, his daughter and his grandchildren) dance to Gloria Gaynor’s pop song – ‘I Will Survive’ at concentration camps and memorials throughout Europe. The dance is a tribute to the tenacity of the human spirit and a celebration of life.

If he wants to dance on the ground that was supposed to be his grave, more power to him, I say.

God bless you all! There are few better testaments to the human spirit than to dance in the face of evil. The message is not to survive but to Thrive! And you have.

My great-Uncle danced on the grave of a high school teacher who had wronged him 10 years earlier when he was a Marine on the Midway islands. I’ve heard that it’s a nice feeling.

I would personally prefer that Jews would dance on the grave of Germany than making a grave for us all in the Middle East.

How touching. I sure hope to see Palestinians dancing in a freed Gaza someday, in triumph over beating enforced malnutrition, degradation, and the world community that condoned it.

Fantastic! I smiled and I cried. It must have felt wonderful after all these years to not only dance “on” the face of danger but to do it with your grandchildren! The comments at the end were an added surprise. You go, guy!
