Solidarity by the Slice

The future of workers’ rights in this country will not be decided in the courts, it will not be decided in Congress, it will not be decided on talk radio, it will not be decided on Fox News. The future of worker’s rights in this country will be decided on the streets of Madison, Wisconsin.

The city of Madison, Wisconsin is currently experiencing protests against Senate Bill 11 that would take away some collective bargaining requirements in dealing with public worker unions. The bill was introduced February 14, 2011, at the request of Governor Scott Walker. It spent two days under review of the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee. The vote was scheduled for February 17, but was delayed due to a lack of quorum in the Senate. All fourteen of the state’s Democratic senators were reported to have left the state to delay the likely passing of Bill 11. They refuse to return until the bill has been amended.

When I heard about it a couple of days ago I thought it was a wonderful way of expressing solidarity and so I skyped Ian’s Pizza from Israel and ordered a pizza pie to be delivered halfway around the world. And so the chalkboard where the staff have been updating the origin of the donations these last few days, was updated to show my country’s name oh so proudly. But not before someone wrote ‘JURUSALEM‘ [sic] – ‘coz you know…

Part 3: Viral Videos Do Not Happen – They Are Caused

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times: It’s not a flashmob if you hire people to do it, and it’s not viral if you hire a PR company to publicize it. Long story short, for some reason PR companies think I am interested in blogging about their “Fresh Thinking & Flawless Execution” flashmobs. I am not. And so as I have done in the past, I choose to publish the email that was sent to me – and not the video, in an attempt at shedding some light on the war over mindshare.
